Sunyata · Meili Hotel

Commissioned by Travelling with Hotel and Travel Management Group, Sunyata Hotel Meili is co-created by Signyan Design Studio led by renowned interior designer Xie Ke, as the last member of Design Hotels. The project is re-purposed from a former backpacker lodge located in Deqin, Yunnan.

由中国本土酒店管理公司行李旅宿委任，尚壹扬工作室 Signyan Design Studio担当室内设计，既下山·梅里酒店将远离尘世的云南德钦的一处背包客旅舍，改造为一处呈现东方新人文主义美学的高端设计酒店，并入列Design Hotels联盟。

Mindfulness is a quintessential element in Chinese humanity traditions, in which individualistic drive grounds in the central instead of being family- or power-engined. For Sunyata Hotel Meili, the nearby awe-inspiring landscapes and cultural heritages tend to create power oppression to the mindful merit of Zen culture. For Xie, he creatively offers a unique design paradigm by adopting the abstract story-telling in Chinese art history, de-constructing the invasive atmosphere from the figurative to the individual and to the culture. In the Hotel, any figurative expression is minimized. SYY Studio further utilizes furnitures and hand-picked decoration sourced from the local to enchant a warm yet rustic experience. There still are some Tibetan references across the hotel: the golden ceiling, washed thangka paintings, rammed earth walls and strategic lighting design rephrasing the halo from Tibetan temples.

“内观”为中国人文主义的精神核心，不以对权利及家庭结构为导向，而注重个体化性的自我探索。针对既下山·梅里而言，强势的外部环境（被称为神山的梅里十三峰、壮阔的自然地貌特质、饱满的藏传佛教文化）趋向于与来自东方禅宗文化的“内观”呈现出对立的状态。针对这一挑战，谢柯及尚壹扬工作室以东方艺文中抽象表达的特质为出发点，消解具象的视觉符号对在地环境的影响，同时将空间转化成为人之精神的载体。来自谢柯的家居品牌YIJI Collection家居配合由谢柯在当地挑选的老物件，呈现温暖而粗犷的真实感。对藏地文化的影射则克制地表达于无装饰铜制金顶、斑驳的唐卡装饰及藏式夯土墙面的质感及灯光设计中，对佛教神性的隐喻。

As a breakthrough modernizing Asian design, Sunyata · Meili is a design project for the renaissance of individualistic heritage in Chinese philosophy meanwhile remaining authentic to the humble Confucianist belief in the context of an exotic environment.

既下山·梅里呈现了新东方人文精神的设计体系，跳脱出符号化的思维定势，以克制、谦逊的姿态尊重在地文化气质，并将空间让位于人的个体精神。

Renovation in 2024 - Becoming the 23rd household in Wunongding Village From the sacred mountain and the nature, returning to the neighborhood, paying attention to the real people and local culture. This renovation draws inspiration from the Tibetan humanities and integrates into the Wunongding Village where it is located, becoming the 23rd household here.

2024年改造——成为雾浓顶村的第23户人家 从神山神性、寄情自然回到关注附近，关注真实的人和在地的文化。这次翻修更新，从藏族人文民居汲取灵感，融入它所在的雾浓顶村，成为这里的第二十三户人家。
